A butterfly sipping on a turtle’s tears…No, it is not a verse taken from some poem, but an actual real life phenomenon and one, at that, successfully captured by Ama la Vida TV in Ecuador. This strange behavior known as lachryphagy (aka tear drinking) is one of the manners in which butterflies get necessary moisture and nutrients. The photos of this unique moment display two Dryas iulia butterflies balanced on the heads of some turtles and drinking their tears, and they were awarded the 2014 Wikimedia Picture of the Year.
