Due to cancer, many women undergo mastectomies and surgical removals of part of their breasts. Every year these procedures save the lives of thousands of them and prevent the development of breast cancer. And while the chances of growing cancer cells reduce, the scars on a woman’s body and soul remain.

Against every fear, many of these women show admiring strength, erasing the signs of these painful procedures with beautiful and empowering tattoos.

P.Ink is a website that connects women, who wish to tattoo their mastectomy scars, with tattoo artists. David Allen, one of the artists featured in the site, expressed his thoughts about this project and what it means for both patients and artists, “What was clinical became beautiful again… we turned sterile into sensual. We took back control.”
