Brutally honest snaps of the capital of Imperial Russia

St.Petersburg is one of the most important cities in Russia, seconded only by Moscow. It is often considered the cultural capital of the eastern giant, it was founded on the 27th of May 1703 and served as capital of Imperial Russia from 1712-1728 and 1732-1918.

Photographer Alexander Petrosyan, lives in St.Petersburg. He has spent most of his years discovering and documenting every bit of this city. “This is my world” he explains.

Petrosyan was given his first camera as a gift when he was just 12 years of age. After an on-again off-again relationship with photography, he decided to turn pro, in 2000.

Since then, his biggest inspiration has undoubtedly become, the town he lives in. And he has amassed an amazing collection, which shows the historic city in a different way. A collection without filters, unpolished and real. Something different from your everyday postcard and travel documentary.
