Bogdan Rata is a Romanian sculptor who creates sculpted suggestions for the human anatomy. Working with materials as polystyrene, industrial paint, plaster and synthetic resin, Rata shapes his own take on a physical formation of the psychological self.
Hands coming out of heads and pink headless bodies, are Rata’s unconventional study on the male and female bodies. His deformations are both disturbing and intriguing, with the viewer drawn by what he sees, having mixed feelings about Rata’s misfits. These surreal works vary in their shape and color, with many having a pop feel added to them through vivid colors.
In a unique and definitely interesting way, the viewers can identify with Rata’s creations, who help them understand their selves, bodies and connection between the two. Through investigating alternative ways a body can -or cannot, function, Rata invites the viewers to explore his figures and accept them for their unattractiveness, discovering their strange beauty.
