Crafter Makes Birds Out Of Wood And Paper By Hand-Cutting Every Feather

Jonathan Stone for Art-Sheep

Zack McLaughlin is an imaginative crafter who translated his love for birds into sculptures from paper, wood and other mixed media.

Their beauty inspired McLaughlin, who started making his adorable bird-sculptures a couple of years ago. The first one he ever created was for his children’s book concept in which a little boy makes a paper bird lantern and it flies away. McLaughlin couldn’t visualize a right depiction for his bird, so he decided to craft it. He tries to make the recreations of the actual birds as faithful as possible, and achieve a realistic result.

The process of creating the handcrafted birds and experimenting with new materials was a challenge for McLaughlin, but in the end it was a rewarding and creative experience.
