Besides being cute and fascinating animals, snails are also extremely fragile when living amongst humans. Whenever the rainy season starts, snails crawl out of their shelters into public, often finding themselves on roads and in people’s backyards, unknowingly risking their lives. This inspired some people to paint these snails’ shells to make them much more noticeable to passersby and protect them from accidental trampling under foot.

Of course, not all of these people painted these snails’ shells to protect them – they simply wanted to make them look cool while crawling around in their back yards. Whatever your reasons might be, make sure not to paint anything that would look offensive and use only non-toxic paint for your tiny artworks.

Take a look at a few of the best examples of snail shell paintings below.

It all may have started when someone noticed this little snail passing by an apartment complex:

Some people do it just for the sake of art, but it still saves a lot of lives:

Most animals try to avoid bright colors, as they signal danger and mean that the animal may be poisonous, so the paintjob may even protect them from other creatures.
