Hyungkoo Lee is a Korean artist known for his project of a secret laboratory for biological experiments. His strange optical devices and their connection to a mysterious, conspiratorial culture captivated both the critics and the audience in the early 00s.
His series of Optical Helmets transforms the facial features of a person. Magnifying their mouths and eyes, these helmets give Lee and his models a new appearance. After making the first of his series of helmets, Lee created two more, modifying their features so they can fit better a person’s -or the artist’s, needs.
