Beauty is something that we all seek in life, in one way or another. However, beauty standards continue to remain subjective and ever-changing; depending on the times, the country or the culture, as one can easily observe. This difference in what is considered beautiful according to each culture, is successfully demonstrated by Esther Honig, in her series “Before & After”.
The journalist came in touch with 40 graphic designers, some of them professionals and others not, from over 25 different countries asking them to enhance an unedited picture of herself. Some of the countries included in Honig’s project were, namely, the Philippines, Serbia, Morocco, Kenya and Pakistan. Characteristically, the creator has said, “Photoshop allows us to achieve our unobtainable standards of beauty, but when we compare those standards on a global scale, achieving the ideal remains all the more illusive.”
