Who wouldn’t want to have a look at their favourite comic book superhero’s private life? Grég Guillemin,a French artist, gives us a small taste -or a big one- with a collection titled: “The Secret Life Of Heroes”, soon to be published and found on a bookstore’s window near you!
Being in the spotlight as a comic superhero is not an easy thing to do. Saving people, flying, doing everything in your power to save one’s life take up all of your energy. So what Greg Guillemin did was to take a “sneak peek” at superheroes domestic lives. They do have one, you know.
From Spiderman to Yoda and from Snow White to Superman, Greg is here to solve the mystery: They kiss, they shave,they wear sunglasses playing cool, they do get all dirty eating a doughnut. All these, in amazing pop- style compositions –a sight for everybody’s sore eyes!
As he characteristically says: “Two years ago, I started a collection called the “Secret Life of Heroes”, imagining my favorite heroes in their not-so-interesting domestic lives doing not-so-extraordinary activities.
Later with the “Pop Icons” series, I extended my work to other parodic subjects, mixing symbols, brands, stars and characters together to put them in funny situations while keeping the same aesthetics and techniques I used with heroes”
