Check out these eye-catching 3D illusions and the artist’s unique background

Katy Ann Gilmore is visual artist, living and working in Los Angeles. She earned a BA in Mathematics, Art and Spanish from Greenville Collage. As well as an MFA from Azusa Pacific Uni, in California, in Visual Art.

Her unique background allows her to combine art with mathematics and transform regular, flat spaces into eye-catching 3D illusions.

And while her projects seem digitally rendered, they are 100% hand painted. Gilmore uses only straight and curved lines, in order to create the illusion of 3D space and to display dips and peaks, respectively.

Gilmore takes inspiration from mathematical formulae, equations and graphs. “I’m currently influenced heavily by topography and the relationship between 2D, perpendicular planes, and their distortions into 3D space.” The artist explained.
