You probably remember Ashley Armitage as we’ve featured her work in the past, to discuss how her photographs annoyed some Instagram users. And though most people would ask why, we all can see the reason and we’d like to discuss it again.
Body hair and the exposure of a normal human body looks appalling to the majority of social media users as it doesn’t feed the stereotype of the cold, skinny -probably photoshopped, body that women admire and men desire. And even though most women are not -and should not be that body, this false image of the “ideal woman” has its roots in every aspect of our lives, making everybody overlook the fact that it’s in a woman’s nature to be hairy, curvy and have her period.
These women -and many more, are Armitage’s models. The girl next door, the friend, the sister, the lover, the girl that has a normal body and through the photographer’s lens becomes the goddess she should feel like she is. And that’s what’s magical about Armitage’s photography. The fact that she can make any woman stand out because of her own unique features and the beauty of her distinctiveness.
We’ve gathered a few recent shots of the photographer as found on her Instagram account to celebrate her, us and her women.
