We all know that modern big cities are home to a wide array of different cultures and ethnicities, part of the country’s way of life while still proudly retaining their home country’s identity and characteristics. This cultural diversity is depicted and expressed in a very creative way, through Valentina Loffredo’s Instagram project. The graphic design enthusiast and Instagrammer, by the name of ‘thatsval’, captures everyday life passersby and locations in the city, transforming them, in the most imaginative ways, into the flags of various nations.
Simple, yet essential Loffredo’s flag pictures cut straight to the chase. “Flags are the perfect subject for a minimal, eye-catching picture thanks to its strong graphic elements: color blocking and geometric shapes above all,” she states. “It is also a fun and meaningful project for us as, a family of Italians living in the very international city of Hong Kong.”
