Anna Randal for Art-Sheep
TALWST is a Toronto-based artist who creates the most adorable little worlds in the cutest little boxes. The boxes are usually old ring boxes and the scenes depicted in them are based on current events.
The artist inserts in his works marginalized narratives, influenced by unjust incidents of the contemporary world, like the deaths of the African-American teens in the US or the missing students in Mexico. TALWST’s beautiful miniature dioramas are his homage to a diversified and inclusive culture that serves as his own way of interpreting history. “The work’s small scale allows me the opportunity for a very particular kind of meditation. The overarching theme is related to time and space; to my sense of the vastness and the fragility of the world which I inhabit; and my fleeting memories of this world.”
