We never saw this coming, not even in our wildest dreams!

The biggest star of her generation, Adele, performed her new single, When We Were Young, inside Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity Room—The Souls of Millions of Light Years Away (2013) at the Broad in Los Angeles. Of course, imagining Adele singing a song in a dark room full of lights makes want to fangirl like 15-year-olds, a fantasy that was further enhanced on 24 February. Adele sang the song at the Brit Awards, and footage from her Infinity Room visit was used as the backdrop of her performance.

In a video posted by The Board (see below) Adele says she first saw Kusama’s work in an Instagram post by fellow pop star Katy Perry.

I was so blown away by the photograph—I had no idea what it was,” she explains. As for the experience, she says it was definitely life-changing. “You see different versions of yourself from every angle, and When We Were Young is kind of based on my life from childhood up to now,” she continues. “I definitely felt like standing in that room for an hour, I saw things in myself and of myself that I haven’t noticed before.”
