“Too Close”: Peter Kaaden’s series plays with perception

Anna Randal for Art-Sheep

Peter Kaaden is a young German photographer based in Berlin. His work differentiates between provocative portraits to Terry Richardson-esque nudes, revealing the artist’s special aesthetic. For his new photography series, Zuh Nah (Too Close), Kaaden got inspired during a dental exam and later photographed details of food and fabric, causing the result to look like a modern take on Gustav Courbet’s, The Origin of the World. The vagina –or mouth, if you want to see it that way, lookalikes make the viewers uncomfortable and unsure if what they are looking at is safe for work or not.
