A PHOTOGRAPHIC PROJECT OF MOTHERS’ BODIES
The concept of beauty nowadays is heavily photoshopped leaving out those women who don’t match the images of women photographed to promote it. Among those women left out are most mothers. Jade Beall, a Tucson-based photographer, is here to bring a healthy counterweight to this trend through her series of photographs “The Bodies of Mothers”.
In her project, Beall photographs women of all sorts -slim or heavy, smooth or wrinkly, big or small, young and old- and shows how graceful mothers’ bodies are. For those women that have been marked during their pregnancies with stretch marks, Beall’s photography acts a source of empowerment and self-esteem. She mentions in her website that her dream is to “inspire future generations of women to be free from the unnecessary self-suffering and embrace their beauty just as they are”.
We don’t have stretch marks, we are tigers that earned our stripes ladies.
