Agape Charmani for Art-Sheep
Who’d have thought that both real and fictional people, like Marina Abramovic and Edward Scissorhands, would look so good as ponies!
Mari Kasurinen recreates “her little ponies” by making new types of minion horses based on fictional characters of pop culture or artists, singers and celebrities. The artist comments on the social and cultural obsession with products and people in the most fun, imaginative and -definitely, playful way. Her detailed work and thoughtful choices of models create a strongly current work, that not only stands as a sarcastic commentary, but also as a way of translating pop culture.
“The popular culture, social media and the celebrity entertainment business offers the perfect surroundings for the new digital age obsessions – the personality cult phenomenon and personal branding. Today a new competition has started – You have to know who you are and what you want. You have to be a brand. And you have to do it better, bigger and faster than anyone else,” she states on her website.
