Agape Charmani for Art-Sheep
Kelly Reemtsen is an artist who understands the dark instincts of modern women and manages to incorporate them into her colorful paintings.
According to the artist, the modern day woman is a fashionable persona with killer instincts and dangerous household items she intends to use if necessary. Her figures’ vintage attires combined with the objects they hold -from hammers to chainsaws, create an image far different than the common image of the contemporary woman. Reemtsen keeps the identity of her subjects hidden, depicting only her women’s torsos and legs, generalizing their looks, feelings and intentions.
Despite their fancy dresses and beautiful jewellery, Reemtsen’s women are not the innocent suburban housewives but the mysterious wives who hide their disappointment along with their spicy secrets, and fantasize about acting on their rage.
