Sigga Ella, a photographer from Iceland, has chosen a very interesting and beautiful way to question gender stereotypes and raise awareness on an autoimmune disease. In her series “Baldvin”, which in the Icelandic language means strength, she photographs seven women with Alopecia.

This autoimmune disease, also known as spot baldness, causes the hair to be lost in some or, in extreme cases, all areas of the body. Ella and her models aspire through this series of portraits to challenge such stereotypes as those that require women to have long hair and show the alternative beauty of women that have lost their hair, but remain stunning.
