Jason Mitchell’s photography series, Dream Away, is the perfect combination of pure eroticism and artistic minimalism.
The photographer depicts nude models who look like they float in a placeless and timeless dimension. Their bodies look as if they were sculptures formed and bended as if they were in a state of eternal sleep. This project is inspired by metamorphosis and the way the vessel -in this case the body, is passively exploring the blank space it is in.
Mitchell’s figures look ghostly, as if they exist and not exist in any dimension. The photographs have an ethereal essence that creates an angelic atmosphere around the photographed women, while it’s not clear whether their bodies are floating or falling.
This work leaves the viewer with a feeling of spirituality, a sense that there is a higher power, and that that higher power is what made Mitchell’s figures.
“I ask my subjects to explore a loss of control, but a sense that they are being guided, pushed and pulled by another sentient being, as they make their way to a new self. They represent the soul of a magical creature on a journey through the limbo that connects their past understandingto this new unknown,” explains the artist.
