Alicia Watkins Cross-Stitched Microbes And Germs In Wooden Hoops

Anna Randal for Art-Sheep

Experienced crafter Alicia Watkins took her love (or hatred) for germs and microbes to another level.

Watkins creates cross stitches, completed in natural wood embroidery hoops, that contain sewn microbes and germs. Graphic right? During their production, the crafter picks her threads carefully, using the right colors for each microbe. She later creates the forms she wants with her needles and twists, and adds the name of each germ under its depiction, completing her bizarre little medals.

From “common cold” to pneumonia and malaria to herpes, Watkins constantly adds new members to this macabre family. The crafter sells her creations on etsy, with hundreds of people having already bought some of her works.
