Plants Are Taking Over This Abandoned Fishing Village

Houtouwan Village was once a prosperous fishing village. In 1980, population was more than 3,000 residents. However, residents started to move out in the ’90s because of its remote and hard-to-access location.

Today Houtouwan Village is covered with so much vegetation, that most of the homes have been completely swallowed by nature, wrapped in soft, climbing plants that have covered walls, roofs, stairs, doors, pretty much everything that was left behind. Some of these houses are still home to inhabitants such as older fishermen who, despite the difficulties do not want to leave their place of birth and have decided to spend their last years in serenity.

That Village is located on Gouqi Island, which belongs to a group of 394 islands known as the Shengsi Islands in the Zhoushan Archipelago.
