Samuel Masters for Art-Sheep
Do you remember the beautiful and impressive crop circles in the popular 2002 movie Signs? Or perhaps the immense aerial view artworks in the children’s show Art Attack? Well, if you do then you will also love rice paddy art.
In Shenyang, a city in the northeast of China there is a 25-acre theme park dedicated to the art of plotting rice fields in such a way so that detailed pictures are formed. Using their knowledge of different rice species’ growing patterns and colors, the local farmers have for a very long time planned and created their “sprouting” works of art, as a way to pray for blessing. Nowadays, farmers are encouraged to continue their practices as an attraction for tourists to the region and the amusement park is considered one of the largest collections of this type of stunning tradition.
