Dan LuVisi re-imagines some of our favorite, most popular cartoon characters as we’ve never seen them before, and probably, as we never ever wish to see them at night, all alone. In his series of illustrations, “Popped Culture”, the artist creates uncanny portraits of beloved heroes, like Mickey Mouse, Homer Simpson, Tiger or the Cookie Monster, among others, as monsters, psychopaths and serial killers.
Nightmarish and blood-drenched, creepy and deformed, with eyes and expressions burning with madness, LuVisi’s creations are a head-first plunge into our worst childhood nightmares, yet still very intriguing. The illustrator explains, “I was inspired by my childhood nostalgia, growing up on Disney and Nickelodeon cartoons. But what my intentions were to do, was combine that love with the dark underbelly of Hollywood and how it corrupts some of its many actors and actresses.”
