Prague-based artist Jakub Geltner‘s works are titled “Nest” and when observed by a distance, they do, indeed, look like a flock of birds perching on mossy rocks surrounded by the sea or the walls of various buildings, but if one takes a closer look, one will realize that they are actually a number of satellite dishes and surveillance cameras.
In his installations, Geltner turns the tables, as items which are used for people to observe through, become items to be observed by the audience and involve themes like the antithesis between the peace of nature and modern technology’s “voyeurism”. As he states, “The growth process of a nest on the facades of buildings or in different urban spaces can be implemented as a congestion point or as a starting point of an infection.”
