Art-Sheep Features: The Sculpture-like “Shapes” Of Lori Larusso

Agape Charmani for Art-Sheep

Lori Larusso is a Lexington, Kentucky- based artist whose education on design, architecture and art is evident in her beautiful, surreal and environmentally-charged works.

The artist combines her design skills and her rich imagination to create “Shapes” of various objects, rooms and compositional sets. Through her acrylic paintings Larusso presents a world where everything is uncommon, strange and surreal. Her subjects are mainly raising environmental awareness or of a domestic interest, while her content includes common objects, vehicles, rooms and animals. These are depicted in situations where their nature and functionality are altered, in a way that deprives them of the ability to act. The objects show still, unable to oppose to various smaller or bigger catastrophes and malfunctions.

This series of works offers the viewer an exquisite type of illusion, as Larusso cuts the panels and gives a third dimension to her two-dimensional spaces. The shapes, shadows and colors in combination with the unique formation of the images -or should we say sculptures, create an artistic specimen of knowledge, creativity and detailed work.
