Jonathan Stone for Art-Sheep
From April 16 to July 5, visitors of Sydney’s Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) will get to experience 19 installation from the 1960s to the present day, by major international artists. After its sold out show at London’s Hayward Gallery and the record attendances it reached at the Auckland Art Gallery, the exhibition titled Light Show goes to Sydney to continue impressing and amusing its visitors.
The exhibition features installation works that play with light, its shades and its forms. According to MCA Director, Elizabeth Ann Macgregor, “Light Show offers an extraordinary audience experience. There are works that bathe visitors in changing light or immerse them in environments that play with perception. Some invite interaction, others pulse and flicker in hypnotic ways.”
Highly acclaimed artists such as James Turrell, Ivan Navarro, and Leo Villareal participate in the exhibition. The show is accompanied by Luminous, an MCA exhibition of light works by Australian artists such as Jonathan Jones, Peter Kennedy, and Sandra Selig. Jonathan Jones’ Naa (To See or Look), is a newly commissioned piece and it’s created with fluorescent lights that are arranged to form the beautiful star trails of Sydney’s south-eastern night sky.
Light Show and Luminous where visited by some Instagrammers, during their press preview day. The Instagram users captured some beautiful photographs of the shows, you can see below.
