Herbert List is a surrealist photographer well-known for, well, his surreal photographs. Long before the digital era’s perks, List’s ability to manipulate the photographic work used to mesmerize the art world. The black-and-white pictures of his featured her, depict people with their insides showing or their head being punctured.
This beautifully gruesome line of work can nothing but praise List’s skill and artistic mind. His mysterious, dark scenes in combination with the surreal aesthetic draw the viewer into a world of delightful oddities. Influenced by Giorgio de Chirico’s work, List became famous from the mid-1930s through the 1960s for his beautiful scenery, attention to detail, moody models and mysterious worlds.
