Agape Charmani for Art-Sheep

Erin O’Keefe is a visual artist and architect based in New York City and New Brunswick, Canada. Her work is inspired by her architectural background, while she is constantly exploring the forms and shapes of the object of a complex and abstract creating style.

In her series Things Fall Apart, the artist is interested in the relationship between object and image. For this project she created objects out of torn pieces of photographic images that give a 3D illusion, making the viewer believe he is looking at multiple-material sculptures. Through her deadpan but direct works, the artist showcases the problematic of space and size, as the distorted images do not allow a clear view on the depicted objects.

It is unsure whether her interests lie more on working on her objects or photographing them. Misalignment and misinterpretation are definitely central issues of her practice, makingĀ  the artist’s things seem more like a research in forms and optical illusions, to her and the viewer’s eyes.
