Bruce Louis for Art-Sheep

Cape Town-based artist Lorraine Loots has been making miniature paintings for a few years now and she is back with a new project, “Potluck 100: Paintings for Ants”. Like before, Loots creates her teensy-weensy images with such detail that seems almost unreasonable. Unlike before, she doesn’t make a painting a day but takes it slower, producing four a week. Four tiny paintings a week, four different categories: #microcosmmondays are for space-themed paintings, #tinytuesdays are (up until now) for books, #fursdays -yep, you guessed it- are all about animals and #freefridays are free-themed.

Loots did her first mega miniature project back in 2013, when she took up the challenge of making one tiny painting a day for a whole year. She repeated the feat again in 2014, to commemorate Cape Town’s designation as world design capital. Potluck 100 is a much shorter project, which she has only just started this March and will go on for another 25 weeks. So, if you like what you see here and want more, Loots will give it to you. Be sure to check out her Facebook and Instagram profiles for any updates on her work.
