According to mlive, Margaret Thome Bekema, 97, had to quit school in 1936, to support her family. After almost 80 years and with a little help from a distant relative, the overage graduate received her diploma. “I thank you from the bottom of my heart,” Bekema told the Catholic Central’s Principal, Greg Deja, who added, “Her life has been one of sacrifice and service. It has been so encouraging and inspiring for our community because her choices represent all the core values that we teach our students.”
